To report dishonest and bad behaviour

I would strongly recommend avoiding this company. I find it astonishing to read some of the more positive reviews as one member of staff in particular was very rude and obnoxious from the get go, (makes me think are the reviews genuine)even in light of this I still was prepared to go ahead with purchasing the car as I really wanted the vehicle.

After days of conversations, and getting to the point of transactions and delivery one of the directors decided to text me (at a very unsociable hour) to say that he had changed his mind and would be withdrawing from the sale!!..the reason for thiswell I can only assume one of 2 reasons, 1) I didnt take out enough finance to grant him a decent amount of commission or 2) because you can legally return a car on finance if faulty.

Which leads me to question the reliability of their cars. If you have a choice between Northover cars and another dealer I would recommend the latter.!!!

On June 8th 2021 Northover Cars Ldt of Whitstable Kent were takento the small claims court at Hereford Justice Court. The claimants won their case proving that Northover Cars had mis advertised the car and it was not up to standard advertised.

The claimants were pleased with the outcome and would urge anyone buying from this dealership to check everything and do not automatically believe what is said. They also mis informed the claiments regarding the previous ownership of the car. Northover Cars were given two weeks to pay they ignored this deadline.

I purchased a c22oD AMG Sport from Northover,it required new front discs and pads to pass the MOT. I part exchanged a Mk6 Golf 2lt TDI With 1years manufactures warranty still on the vehicle in perfect condition.

I picked up the Mercedes the following day,new discs and pads and reg changed,no problem,only one key was supplied with the Merc and Northover were not interested,I went to the Mercedes dealer in Canterbury and a new key was purchased £225 this key had to be programmed in Germany as Mercedes will not part with the software.

After countless visits to Northover they eventually paid 50%. Make sure you have 2keys when buying a car from Northover.

It is not surprising that Matthew Northover has made his threats of court action against the individuals who have posted their dissatisfaction with his company.

I can confirm, from personal experience that most, if not all of the injured parties providing their terrible experiences with Northover cars are genuine. What a weak excuse for Northover to say that these have been fabricated by their competitors.

If that was the case, Northover would have already taken legal action. He can still enter litigation and should he'd be successful, he can record the outcome on this website.

I can right now ask him to please take me to court, my evidence will expose the callous cheating way in which he stole £2000 from a person with a terminal disease.

The reason individual customers of Northover have posted their complaints on this website is because negative comments are censored on their own website reviews.

Any clear thinking person about to spend their hard earned cash buying a car from Northover must need their head examined after reading these reviews.

I have just purchased a C Class Mercedes via Jason and Matt at Northover Cars and as always, this being my fourth purchase from them over a short period of time, again found their cars and their service to be quite honestly second to none.

I saw a car for sale on their web site. When I phoned Jason he explained me the details of the car I was looking at in detail.

On visiting their premises I saw the car and it was exactly what Jason had described it as.

He took me through the sale of the car very professionally and completed the sale.

Even after the sale was completed they put in new tyres when mentioned that the tyre was a bit old.

They changed two rear tyres for me so that I was another very satisfied customer. Would certainly recommend Jasson and Matt to other friends and would certainly use the firm again.

Better than any Mercedes Main Dealership I have dealt with

Having purchased 7 (seven) Mercedes cars in the past 11 (eleven) years, 3 (three) being new vehicles, I can honestly say I have found Northover Cars to being streets ahead in both areas of customer curtesy and service provided at all times.

I have to confess to being an absolute ‘pain’ when it comes to my cars - pinkie has to be the word - however, I have met my match with this dealership, who leave nothing to chance as in all matters perfection seems to be their byword.

When I picked my SLK up recently it was in prestien condition upon arrival with a purchase price exstremely competitive by other similar examples at other dealerships.

Next time I’m looking to change vehicles Northover Cars will be the only Dealership I will be contacting.

End of April 2018 I bought jaguar xf sv8 from them... biggest mistake in my life.

Car was sold with extra warranty, looks good, clean and I was told that car was not molested and serviced regularly. To the point; 2 weeks after purchase I had to change, all spark plugs- £120, both catalic converters- £1700.... 1st time on recovery truck-£70... week after that I regassed air conditioning- £55... not working, had to change air con condenser-£160-not original.. it was driving for another week then I had massive coolant leak. 2nd time on recovery truck - £80. That costs me- £450... before I deliver it to the garage central locking stopped working- £150 for repair... I'm not going to describe all stories but I had to change (except all above):

-diff

-all rear suspension bushes

-coolant level sensor

- prop shaft mounting

Car is using 2,5l of oil for 3000miles, smoking like a old diesel, some knocking from top of an engine. Generally I was told in two garages that I need to rebuild engine.... app 2500 pounds... I paid for it not even a penny cheaper than those cars costs somewhere else... I could have good xfr, xkr, sl55, m6 or something similar for all that money...

I'm dreaming of driving that piece of .... in to their office... through front doors... and set it up in fire... oh I forgot... only 3 elements -left front wing - rear left quarter panel - roof weren't resprayed . If you want to buy from them have a good mechanic with you.

Selling cars with accident damage

Northover cars tried to sell me a car that had been damaged very bad repair there was not mention of damage in the add or on the phone I believe they was hoping someone would buy the car without noticing the damage. I was also told most cars have history accident/damage.

Very arrogant salesman.

Just be careful if your viewing a car take a mechanic better not to buy a bent car

Towards the end of 2017, I came across a Mercedes Benz CLS being offered for sale at Northover Cars. The price seemed competitive and I was satisfied with the PX valuation on my BMW.

I was buying this car from 1400 miles away, therefore not possible to view the car until arrival at the dealer. In the meantime I was asked to pay a first payment on the vehicle of £500. Unfortunately, having paid £800 for a non refundable ferry ticket, I was informed by my Doctor that I had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and had no choice that through no fault of my own I had to cancel the car. In the weeks that followed the car had remained unsold.

it was a great relief to be told that the diagnosis indicated a treatable condition. Being keen to buy the car in question and saw it was still for sale, I called Northover cars and said I would be interested to proceed, however Matthew Northover said “I will need another £1500 as a second part payment on the car, bringing the total to £2,000”. A large deposit readers will agree but my intention to buy the car was genuine and so paid the amount requested. Unfortunately another tragedy struck, my wife fell and broke her hip and required two months care and recovery.

I called Matthew Northover to make him aware and at the same time asked for my deposits to be returned, Clearly a man without sympathy or scruples, he refused any refund. These circumstances did not interfere with the sale of this car and was sold one week later for a third party buyer. Two months later the car came back on the market, I was now in a position to buy the vehicle. First I wanted to know the reason Northover took the car back in such a short time, the reply was a little farcical they said the buyer had a fight with his wife, it wasn’t explained what the cause of the row was but it did affect their retaining the car.

I thought how lucky, when my tragic events had passed I could purchase the car again. I entered into conversation with Matthew Northover and asked that £2,000 I had already paid into the car be deducted from the final settlement. You will be shocked as I was that he at point blank refused. In other words he has just walked off pocketing £2000 of my money.

You will agree that this displays the callousness of the man and doesn’t appear to have any principles. I can tell you with absolute certainty that any Franchised Mercedes dealer in the country would refund your deposits without qualms.. Remember also that I had never seen the vehicle, I had signed no contract to buy and the deal would not have been complete until signed contract papers were presented on the day of arrival to pick up the car. You may agree that this account does not show Northover Cars as a reputable and honest used car dealer.

To even think about buying a car from them would be a huge mistake. Go to a main dealer for peace of mind.

What a terrible story and I hope you do manage to get your well deserved refund. I've just bought a second Mercedes car from Northover and have never had a problem.

Stuart has always been so helpful and I never got a hard sell, it's always been very calm and easy and I've always been very satisfied with both Matthew and Stuart at Northover. I'm sorry you have had such a bad experience and hope it will be resolved for you quickly.

it is against the law to keep a man deposit go to the trading standers my freind he has no right to keep your money or take him to small claim court

11.15pm awaiting for my insurance company to come and rescue me and the car....let's see what Northover cars provide tomorrow. Watch this space....as a good honest person if they provide a positive follow up I will post the outcome & resolve the post....but not until then....A very tired consumer had had a London commute at 6am in the morning ! Grrrrrrr

Purchased our car on 4th February 2017......week 1 fault light...sent an email direct to them and no response. 3rd June car wouldn't start just as we were leaving at 4am for the airport , key wouldn't turn over....We took my husbands work van to the airport .car was stuck on our drive and Northover wouldn't help.

We were advised to purchase the ultimate cover warrant so we did, for what? The car wouldn't start, we re programmed the key, it started, got it off our drive and hey presto it wouldn't start again! No emergency number, ultimate warranty office hours only.....called out of hours mobile number for northover cars, yes at 10.45pm for help. Basically told he was in bed and would discuss the next day.

I am a lady on my own stranded and he couldn't help!

Where on earth is the ultimate warranty......angry angry angry....disgusting after service and care!!! Over £15,000 of nothing!

i cant wait to see what they say about this you can always go to the fos and complain or trading standers or call mister mathew northover himself to get this sorted but they don,t have there own workshops so they will be in the hands of another garage to fix it but give them a chance to fix it they should be bending over backward from there other reviews

Appalling aftersales

Bought a saab within 3 days went wrong many phone calls to northover all i got was matthew will call you back he never did got it repaired at a cost of 460 for a new cim unit stay well clear of these cowboys he wanted me to buy a 800 warranty when i saidno matthew started to sulk i am now taking out a section 71 through my credit card to get the money back for the repair

Must admit I was a little surprised to receive a call from Mathew Northover who was more than happy to help where the warranty company said they could not and he settled the bill for the repair in full thank you Northover cars

Be very wary of this secondhand car sales pitch they promise the earth sell very "used" cars mine was faulty before I even got to drive it they admittedly had it repaired while I waited that repair lasted about two weeks now it's gone wrong yet again and guess what it's not covered by their comprehensive wonderful warranty which apparently isn't worth the paper it's written on an expensive 20k mistake for me don't trust smarmy Stuart or his even more smarmy boss would be my best advice !!

Agreed a good deal on a used Mercedes and was promised a list of minor faults would be rectified ready for collection. Turned up two weeks later to find some of the jobs required had not been done and others appeared to have been done badly!

I said I was unhappy and was refusing to pay for the car with which the owner had a childish tantrum and stormed off leaving a very embarrassed salesman to refund my deposit.

AVOID. I have since returned to a local Mercedes main dealer and am now receiving the customer service I expect from a prestigious marque.

Northover cars did not stand by their guarantee.

I purchased a Mercedes cls from Northover, prior to the purchase they (Mathew) agreed to put right some minor faults, the drivers seat would not adjust well being one of them. After much ado about nothing from northover and threats that they would tell me to get stuffed over all fault claims, said that the seat was to expencive for them to repair and had it locked into place.

Mathew the owner was unpleasent and dictatoral in what he would not do to sort out the problems.

Also one of the rear road springs was found to be broken 2 weeks after purchase but Northover would not fully cover the repair costs.

I would from my experience with Northover cars strongly advise you not to buy from them and warn off others, this is the only way bad businesses will not survive and rip off the honest hard working buyers. Please take my warning to heart.

I feel compelled to submit an objective account of my meritorious experiences with this company, if only out of a moral sense of balancing what clearly appears to be a defamatory campaign to discredit them. I have just purchased another car, my fourth from Mr Northover in twelve years.

This time a BMW to celebrate my retirement, the last two cars being Volkswagen, both of which are still within the immediate family down to their longevity I'm sure due in no small part to their quality and specification when purchased. The cars are still serviced and maintained by the firm recommended by the company. We drive the 30 or so miles from home to the showrooms, a member of staff takes the car for its service whilst we spend the day in whitstable. We get a call from one of the staff to say the car is ready and has been collected, and in turn someone will drive to pick us up in Whitstable to take us back to the show rooms in nearby Tankerton.

I ramble on to convey all this in an effort express our experiences with this company over the years. We have friends and aquaintances who share similar experiences as I'm sure will future prospective customers.
